Once the Beginners Carousel (BC) was stable, we turned our attention to developing a new Intermediate and Advanced curriculum.

The development process began by defining the learning objectives. We identified the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors students should acquire by the end of the course, and we set our sights high. We wanted our students to be: (1) fluent, (2) proficient at Conversational Head Copy, and (3) able to operate effortlessly at high speeds.

Unlike the development of the BC, there were no applicable historical documents for reference. A Content Analysis of three highly successful LICW classes indicated all our learning objectives could be achieved by combining the content and instructional methods of those classes:

  • Tom W0FN’s ICR class developed effective character familiarity, instant character recognition, and instant error recovery instructional methods.
  • Quentin K7DRQ’s NV1U class increased awareness of the benefits of establishing a relaxed state of mind and developed effective head copy instructional methods.
  • Terry WB0JRH’s QRQ class developed effective instructional methods to increase copy and sending speeds into the realm of high-speed telegraphy.

We develop a framework for the combined curriculum, outlining the sequence of high-level skill acquisition. We then determined the overall structure and organization of the course, and The LICW Method was born.

We hope you will read the Student and Instructor Guide for a more detailed description. It may be downloaded here:
