The Long Island CW Club is deeply interested in how blending musical rhythm with Morse code may facilitate the perception of characters as a rhythmic sound and positively influence learning the code.
Our observation of student performance led us to believe there is a connection between musical talent and learning Morse code. Students with musical backgrounds learn faster and become more proficient than others. We found experimental support dating back to 1919 when Thurstone concluded rhythm had a high correlation to ability in telegraphy.
This begged the question; if musical aptitude (pitch, rhythm, time, and tonal memory) is a predictor of eventual success in learning code, could we enhance the learning of code with music and rhythm?
