Ladies CW program

Ladies Welcomed

If you are new to amateur radio, you may not know that licensed females are fondly referred to as YLs – aka Young Ladies. No matter what your age, you may now be referred to as a YL forever! FYI, Men are considered OMs – Old Men!
We have all ages and experience levels of ladies in LICW among our over 325 members. Some are just beginning their amateur radio journey; some have been licensed for many years. Others may have experience operating, but are new to CW (Morse Code), or are adapting their operating styles (breaking in a new key, operating portable) and are looking for support in their new venture.

The YLs are very active as students in the club, with some also serving as instructors and facilitators.

Here’s a list, current as of November 2024:

Anne KC9YL – YL Open House
Carol K6NF – Intermediate 3 and Advanced 1
Cathy W4CMG – Essential Operating Subjects and Kids Classes
Katie KE8LQR – Kids Classes
Lidi KQ3Q – Beginners Carousel 1
Rachael M1AYG – CW Warm Up
Shantel AA4SB – 2 YL-only Practice Sessions

Shantel’s & Anne’s sessions are for YLs exclusively, but you can attend any of the 130+ weekly LICW classes of your choosing, as often as you want, and drop in and drop out as your interests evolve.

The YL Open House on Monday night has a bit of a different format, and is a discussion group whose focus changes weekly, depending on that week’s participants. It’s a great place to check in if you are looking for advice – or inspiration – as you maneuver through the many resources that LICW offers. This session is NOT recorded, but you will receive a weekly recap of the topics that were covered.

Check out some of our favorite YouTube channels, links, loggers and apps as well as photos of some of our YLs in action.
